Shakyamuni was a prince of Kapilavastu in ancient India originally. When he was out touring his realm, he encountered people afflicted with old age, sickness, and death as well as spiritual practitioners. He was deeply impacted by the worldly suffering arising from birth, aging, sickness and death. He decided to renounce his regal title to walk the monastic path in search of liberation. Once he fainted during an austere practice, and realized that austerity alone cannot bring him liberation and his practice should turn to the middle way. He headed to Bodh Gaya instead and sat under the Bodhi tree. He made a vow to never arise again should he fail to attain enlightenment. On the seventh night, he witnessed his innate nature and attained supreme enlightenment.

We thank Shakyamuni Buddha for his arrival to the world and becoming Buddha, enlightening the world of the real fact of the universe and life; thanks to Buddha for inheriting to us such a precious spiritual heritage, thus, inspired us to be firmly believe that attaining enlightenment in present life and set free of ourselves ultimately is possible.
